Letter from 6820 District Governor Bob Graves
March 23, 2012
Fellow Rotarians,
The highest honor that Rotary International bestows on an individual is
"The Service Above Self Award".
It is my privilege to inform Rotarians in District 6820 that Bill
Boykin of the Rotary Club of Greenville, Ms has been chosen as a
recipient of this honor.
Bill Boykin's life is an example of unselfish service to others. His
passion for mission trips led him to the countries of Kenya and
Malawi. The living conditions of the people of these countries left
him devastated. He decided to do something about this.
Traveling to Rotary Clubs in Mississippi, Bill made presentations and
raised awareness of the terrible living conditions faced by these
African people. Bill raised funds for the purpose of drilling water
wells from Rotary Clubs, Rotarians, and non-Rotarians He made trips
to Africa to insure the wells were being properly drilled.
Bill Boykin embodies "Service Above Self" because he is making a
difference in human lives in the very poor country of Malawi.
Congratulations to Rotarian Bill Boykin, to his wife Cindy and their
daughter Meredith. May the Service you began continue for years to come.
Bob Graves, Governor
Rotary District 6820
